Shoulder Rehabilitation Guidelines

What is it?

The shoulder rehabilitation guidelines are standardized post operative shoulder rehabilitation protocols for patients who have undergone Arthroscopic Bankart, standard and non-standard Arthroscopic/ Mini-Open Rotator Cuff Repair or Total Shoulder Arthroplasty. Developed by a team of physical therapists, orthopaedic surgeons and physicians in the Edmonton area, the goal of introducing these protocols was to encourage improved and standardized care for this patient population.

Our Thoughts:

The protocols are approximately 3 pages long and are available for download, making them easy to keep in a patient’s chart and reference during a treatment. The research team behind the protocols also filmed short videos reiterating the phase goals, demonstrating each recommended exercise and providing examples of common compensatory patterns to be aware of. This is incredibly useful resource for any therapist treating post-operative shoulder patients and for those who are unfamiliar with any recommendations.
