CORE Back Tool

What is it?

The CORE Back Tool is an assessment tool that guides primary care providers through key points of history taking, physical examination, initial management, and referrals for patients with low back pain. It helps clinicians screen for red and yellow flags and categorizes patients presenting with mechanical pain into 4 main patterns. Each pattern is accompanied with suggestions for initial management.

Our thoughts:

This tool is very helpful for guiding low back assessments. It provides clear checklists and flowcharts to ensure important details don’t get missed. It is also helpful for identifying what type of exercises a patient is likely to respond well to, providing a starting point for treatment.
