What is it?
The Bunkie test is a set of 5 exercises that can be used to assess (and subsequently improve) static muscle function and length, postural alignment, and spinal stability in athletes. The test is designed to address different “fascia lines”, or groups of muscles within their fascial connections.
Our thoughts:
The Bunkie test can be used to identify weaker core muscle groups in high performance athletes and guide prescription of core strengthening exercises for injury prevention or rehabilitation. Note that the test has face validity, but other forms of validity have yet to be definitively established.
We found a website that provides the different tests along with a video walkthrough of the tests which you can access by clicking on the button below. There is also an article from the Strength & Conditioning Journal going through the tests, but it is restricted access.
