Duke Activity Status Index

What is it?

The Duke Activity Status Index (DASI) is a 12-item questionnaire derived by the South Florida Valve Institute to estimate peak METs to assist with measuring a patient’s functional capacity. The questionnaire asks Yes/No questions about various activities, ranging from ADLs to strenuous sports such as swimming or skiing. The patient is then given a DASI score as well as a METs score.

Our Thoughts:

This tool can be useful for clinicians to determine a patient’s functional capacity and to monitor progress throughout treatment. This questionnaire would be especially helpful in the cardiology field in which it was derived. The DASI is quick and easy to administer and encompasses a wide range of activities. The questionnaire can be completed online by your patient (via the link below) or on paper and you can manually calculate the METs score.
